Your brain registers that this behavior has merit.

You do it again and again.
Eventually, you decide, “Yes, this is a good thing to do.”

Even if it doesn’t give you the same boost every time, your mind and body now expect it, reinforcing the habit.

Your brain associates waking up with checking your phone, and it’s now a strong mind-body connection.
